Here's something that I've been involved with on the nitrous side, which this weekend resulted in a new world record for the fastest piece of furniture at 113.8m/h average.

Don't I know it, I was there :omgrofl:
The shame of it, the table ran 13.6 and I managed 13.9

Hi :)

Was that "meant" to be a standing quarter...if so why didnt they show the gantry speed/time ?

It looked nothing like 113 mph to me....

All the best Brett :)

The run I saw was 13.6 at either 89mph or was it low 90's, can't quite remember, but never 100+

Now there's a coincidence but you should keep up with the other threads Pete as this has been one of Richard's hot topic recently. :omgrofl:

The illusion is shattered! I would have been impressted if the driver was out back, but putting a table on a go kart is just cheating!

Don't get all weird on me you lot, not a standing quarter ner nee ner.
The record has to be over a rolling 500m in both directions within one hour and was set at an average 113.8.
Was only trying to share in the humour of it!

He did a few standing quarters to and the best was 13.7 at 103m/h

Not sure what the chassis consists of but I know it has a Rover V8 engine in it.

We're not being weird, its just that we've been discussing how the table beat Richard in his BMW on Sunday last already and he's been taking some flack for it.

The record has to be over a rolling 500m in both directions within one hour and was set at an average 113.8.
Where was that carried out and what is the title of the record, quickest piece of furniture over 500m??? :omgrofl:

Was only trying to share in the humour of it!
That's nothing compared to the ribbing Richards had for it kicking his ass. :omgrofl:

He did a few standing quarters to and the best was 13.7 at 103m/h
Whatever the exact time, it was quicker than Richards low 14s on at least one occasion.

Pete's not the owner/driver Richard, he's our agent who tuned and possibly contributed to (if not completed) the fitting.

Perry's Rig is based on a Scimitar chassis I think. Rover V8 auto + nitrous !

Perry installed the system, I did the set-up and tuning work.... and generally had a whale of a time with the bloke and his family/friends.

It was based on a Reliant Sabre with a Discovery 3.9V8 and sb150i2 with a minimax.

The Holley carb was a bit of a disaster though and ran so weak cost us the original 3.5 that somebody had crammed in to the Sabre.

Fastest piece of furniture in the world is quite an acheivment though.

Top bloke, great fun.

So this will beat Edd China's Sofa in the Guinness Book

Explain the rolling 500 metres?? Was this at Brunters? And how do you do it? How much of a run up do you get??

I'm keen on seeing this sort of event at some time.

Regards
Perry

There are official rules which Perry had with him. Not sure on the allowance for run up, but it was spaced so there was enough run-up and braking time!
It was at Santa Pod.

I guessed it had to be at the Pod but wasn't aware that they could do anything other than standing 1/4s.

Hi Trev :)

They cannot really as they would need to move the timing gear...

From my Top Fuel days we had people asking to do this at various distances but its not long enough...the Pod end to end is 0.7 of a mile (850 yards ish)

And its pretty rough at the top end lol...

So unless they had their own timing gear or used the mobile set they have (the Pod) ...which would have needed to be placed further down past the gantry. its not on...

All the best Brett :)

The timing gear was supplied by an 'official' company and was moved over the lunchbreak to allow for the return run braking distance back to the start. It's certainly not something they normally do at the Pod and by all accounts they weren't so keen on the return run in case anything went wrong and the table ended up in the workshops!
