What is the consensus on these? I used to run one a few years back, before my oil pump shattered in my engine, prompting the rebuild. I've now got a forged steel oil pump gear in the block and wondering if I should get brave now and re-fit the controversial thing...

If your car normally has a crank damper, why would you want to fit a solid pulley unless the engine was balanced spot on?? Does this release more power?

4 pots are not as smooth as you might think there's all kinds of funky harmonics going on! With the Honda's I mess the alloy light weight pulleys have killed a fair few engines by killing the oil pump just like you! ATI or Fluid Damper make better pulleys which absorb even more vibrations I'd look to see if they do one fo your engine if I were you ;)

Damnit, fair play  I know it's bad, deep down....but I want the extra few hp that I can eek out of the engine if it's at all possible

mgbv8, yeah it releases a small amount of power by underdriving the accessories a teeny bit and by being a lot lighter than the oem pulley connected to the crank.

I have under drive pulleys for my PAS & alternator removing the problem running the undamped crank pulley ;)

Bill is right and his suggestion is a better idea than fitting an undamped pulley.

If you want to save engine power by reducing the drain due to ancillaries, all you need to do is fit ELECTRIC ancillaries, like electric fan (although I'd already expect it to be electric) and electric water pump, along with reducing the drive to the alternator.

I'm already running bigger/lighter waterpump and alternator pullies, but I like the idea of having an electric pulley for some other stuff....I'll look into fitting an electric power steering pump that comes with the MR2 MK3. One thing though...I'm running a small race battery....lets say I've got the engine running and the nitrous bottle warmer is armed and I have an electric power steering pump would that cause potential issues?

I remember one guy with a kit car saying he has an electric reverse gear and this battery that I have isn't enough to power his car. Mind you, I guess there's a big difference between an electric power steering pump and a reverse gear

Too right ;)

Stock should be fine for now but as I think they got your car/engine in the US there's likely to be upgraded options (like a mentioned above) which is what I have for my sleeved engine
