My hope is that Dave can take up from where he left off without having to take a backward step. :)

Just back from Santa Pod where I saw Dave's first pass of the year.

7.3 at 160 - very effortless. He span the wheel some at the start as the track was cold and not good at all, plus he left some on the table at the top end, as you can tell from the terminal. So a decent track and a full pass will shock a few people.

Nice, easy first pass. That bike has got solid 6s in it, no problem at all. Well done to Dave for a confident start.

Congratulations Dave, glad to see you got through the event and hopefully without any of the dramas you've suffered over the rest of the season.

For the record Dave was intending to run on much lower power settings this weekend, to ensure he'd overcome all the previous issues.

Saw Dave run a couple of times.. nice launches front wheel airborne for a longgggg way in some horrible conditions. Serious cross/head wind all day switching from straight across from right to left one minute to in your face head wind the next.

Took some bottle to run good times in the conditions, plenty of our (supertwins) lads had issues with centre lines and guard rails and had to shut off.

Big up to Brad and the other superstreet lads for really going for it in the conditions.Brad's last pass had the rear tyre digging deep into the track while the front was reaching for the sky, seriously impressive in any conditions.

Dave mentioned that he never managed a straight full run due to the windy conditions, such a shame for the last chance he had this year to get back to where he left off last year. :(

Thanks folks :) great to end the season on a high - it's been a terrible season all in all. Though admittedly I did run my quickest ever pass this year...

It's a bit of shame that it took all year to get the fuelling right - though it does make a right mess and waste a load of time everytime you get it wrong... lucky I've got 3 cylinder heads I guess

...and then there's the other things that went wrong.

Hey! doesn't matter now. The very last pass this year was bang on the lambda reading I wanted and though it wasn't pretty it did the job! Not pretty because I headed for the centre and the 8th mile blocks and had to back off to steer it away [I'm not great at steering] of note is the fact that as I could taste victory I then got back on the power! and we're talking theoretically [of course] 180bhp of nitrous immediately I hit full throttle. I think the fact that I went home with my engine still in one piece shows the fueling is right
...as long as we don't change anything this time (except the engine! LOL!)

another interesting point, which I didn't want to advertise prior to the meeting, was that the replacement bottom end I put in turned out to have a few minor issues with it. Ok! one really big issue :beatstick: there are 12 studs that hold the cylinder head on. One had pulled out almost completely and 2 others I stopped torquing as they had started pulling out. Hey! it held together didn't it?!

I'm going to stop typing now as IE is doing something strange and I can't see what I'm typing

2 engines for next year - confident that that will be achievable - might need crew though - any offers gratefully received. And no you don't get paid ;)

I need to recap the seasons events with you as soon as I get a minute. ;)

It's a bit of shame that it took all year to get the fuelling right - though it does make a right mess and waste a load of time everytime you get it wrong... lucky I've got 3 cylinder heads I guess
I'm not sure the melt downs were due to the fuelling (which is one of the reasons I need a seasons recap), as some of those problems I'm reasonably sure were due to the cracks and valve/seat issues.

...and then there's the other things that went wrong.
More reasons why I need the recap.

Hey! doesn't matter now. A new engine would certainly be nice, shame they are so expensive.

another interesting point, which I didn't want to advertise prior to the meeting, was that the replacement bottom end I put in turned out to have a few minor issues with it. Ok! one really big issue :beatstick: there are 12 studs that hold the cylinder head on. One had pulled out almost completely and 2 others I stopped torquing as they had started pulling out. Hey! it held together didn't it?!
I'm glad you didn't tell me about those problems beforehand and it's AMAZING that it held together with those issues and the other less than ideal aspects of the engine.

I'm going to stop typing now as IE is doing something strange and I can't see what I'm typing.
I have the same problem and my brother tells me it's because I'm using the latest version of IE and that I should go back to the previous version.

2 engines for next year - confident that that will be achievable
That would be handy, because if you had a spare, you'd never need it, just as SODS LAW decrees.

- might need crew though - any offers gratefully received. And no you don't get paid ;)
They get a free ticket to the event though (I believe) and even without that, you should have a queue a mile long wanting to be involved in your endeavors.

dave...put that bike in a crate. bring it to north carolina, and we will have you consistent 6.50s when you go home..the bike has it in it. bring it here for some good weather, and sticky tracks and we will get you right.

I still have to check all Dave's records but my opinion at this stage is that the ORIGINAL damage to the heads has never been repaired correctly (see posts on linked thread) and as a consequence that damage (cracks) has caused repeated failure of the same cylinders.

and if ya dont have a 4 point wide band where is your sensor located
It's a good way down the collector pipe and being a single item can only AVERAGE the AFR from all 4 cylinders, which is obviously less than ideal.

Good suggestion and you've pointed out some of the main reasons why Dave's progress is less than desirable being based over here in the wet and windy UK. However, he first needs a good engine and then I'm quite sure your suggestion would result in the times you say.

Thanks trev im curious that all , i thought he had 3 heads and at one stage a fullrace preped engin , i was just curious if you thought that as its an inline 4 that the air flow and temp of the 2 middle cylinders had any effect, or the airflow to middle 2 carbs iv never worked on a full race bike so i have no idea

Ive never understood why but on my bike its always middle 2 that will go lean or show any sign of a fault 1st and seen EGT test on all 4 cylinders on a bike like mine again always middle 2 lot hotter , what ive never seen is an graph with a 4 point wide band on a carb bike

yes shame about just 1 wide band dose the bike have an egt as well ??

i like carbs but if i was Dave i would think about FI at the level hes now at
