Some more pics.

Wheel adapters to bolt on the 50mm axle are finished.

Ground clearance about 6-7cm.

Hi Tezz,

yes in the end i hope to put in some 60 or 70 hp jets.
I also hope the finished product goes around corners!

But there is still some work to do. Lots of welding, Front End, Brakes, Cooling System, Exhaust and finaly N2O!

Thomas

No pics and no drawings.
I can only imagine how it will look in the end.

This build is close to what i´m doing.

The difference is that i use bigger wheels, bigger brakes and stronger axles on front and rear.
I don´t like the small Kart- wheels. There are only three 8mm bolts to hold a wheel on the chassis and some Karts go well over 250 km/h.
My front axle will be fully adjustable. Like a double "A-Arm". Upper Arm is part of the Chassis and fix, lower Arm to adjust.

Lots of videos on YT!

Back to the ignition:

What can i do to make a capable ignition system?
What will work with the CDI ignition? Can i use the Stock CDI? What coils? I have coils with two wires.
Right now i don´t have a full idea how the system works and how to retard timing when Nitrous is on.

Greetings Thomas

Depending how much gas you intend to run, stock ignition system should be fine for up to 50BHP, after that you will probably need something like a DTA S40 ignition only system to be able to map the retard etc. I dont beleive dyna do an ignition for these coz they're COP style ignitions as std, BUT you may be able to get a power commander to do what you want. Will try and find out some options for you

Hi Steve,

i also tried to find something but untill now it´s not looking good.

Dynatek says the have something for ZX9R from year 1998 to 2003 but the manual says only to 2000. :?:

http://www.dynaonline.com/skins/product ... dyna_2000/

But i will clarify that.

If you find something let me know.

Greetings Thomas

Somebody design and build a piggy back ignition retard box for bike ignitions please

Can't retard the ignition on the bonnie, tried static retard... ran hot as f**k then wouldn't start when hot. Also as standard most bike ignitions are impossible to check timing. All the important stuff is inside the motor.Had a few old hondas that had removable plugs that could be replaced with a "window" to allow strobing of the flywheel. But I've got to modify the bonnie's case to allow me to get some figures for the standard ignition so that I have an idea of what to set it to when I replace it with something better.

Makes you hanker after the old days...magneto with an advance/retard lever  simples

Hi again,
right, looked in to this in a bit more depth and no-one specifically makes an ignition to do what you want. I have tried to find out if the dyna 2000 backplate for ZX9 B will fit the E models, so you could revert back to twin coil wasted spark set up, but no-one has been able to give me a definitive answer on this one. If you could get hold of an ignition backplate off of a B model and see if it fits (and rotor set up), then you know you can run a dyna 2000.
Failing that, the next best option would be the DTA S40 ignition only module (around £350), but you will need to sort a toothed trigger wheel and sensor for it, but it will give you fully programmable ignition curves and the option to switch between curves (nitrous and non nitrous). Depending on what controller you use, you should be able to "read" the controller, and adjust timing according to amount of gas being applied at that time. You can also keep the COP set up as well, or alternatively, run 4 single high power coils.

Hope that helps

Steve

Hi all,

my local dealer didn´t respond so i contacted Dyna-online.

Quote:
Hello Thomas.
The DDK2-12C Dyna 2000 ignition kit, which includes the new coils needed for
installation of this system, is the correct ignition kit.
The individual crank trigger required for this application, using the Dyna
2000 module, is the DCT2-7A.

So both, the Dyna 2000 and the Dyna 4000 PRO, are in the Game :D
But what ist the best?
Super Pro Drag Race Ignition sounds like i should buy it!??

Thomas

The Dyna 2000 for four cylinder engines represents a breakthrough in motorcycle ignition flexibility. The Dyna 2000 system consists of a state-of-the-art microprocessor controlled ignition module along with an adjustable Dyna dual sensor crank trigger. For the first time you can actually set the ignition timing to what you want to maximize engine performance. A number of different advance curve modes and a broad range rev limiter let you tailor the ignition to your needs. Dynatek has added the ability to custom program the Dyna 2000 Sportbike ignition via a personal computer. Like our programmable Harley-Davidson and Dyna FS ignitions the Dyna 2000 can be programmed with a custom advance curve, retard mode curve and RPM limit using the optional accessory curve maker kit. There are also 2 user programmable RPM outputs that can be used to activate a shift lightor other RPM activated device.

Dyna 4000 Super Pro Drag Race Ignition is a high energy inductive ignition designed to meet the needs of the professional drag racer. The DYNA 4000 includes a built-in two stage rev limiter that is used for launch control and over rev protection.
Dyna 4000 Super Pro Features:

* Uses the DYNA Pro Series Crank Trigger as a pickup. The DYNA 4000 Super Pro is simply connected between the trigger and the ignition coils.
* Automatically shuts off when the engine is not running, even if the ignition power is left on. This prevents battery drain and coil overheating.
* Built in diagnostic circuitry and an indicator LED that can be used to static time the motor.
* Must be used with DYNA DC9-1, DC9-2, or DC9-4 coils for proper operation.
* Available as both a dual output unit for single plug per cylinder engines and as a quad output unit for dual plug per cylinder engines.
* Available for both in line four cylinder and Harley Davidson engines.
* The DYNA 4000 Super Pro is housed in an easily mounted case, approximately 6" x 3 3/4" x 1 1/4".

Out of the 2, the dyna 2000 (new generation usb) should be the one to go for, as apparently that has the option of programming ignition curves. TBH i havent used one, so how easy they are to use i dont know, but you could program a nitrous curve and leave the stock one for non nitrous, how easy they are to switch over again i dont know, but i do know the 4000 isnt designed to run self start engines, its main use is for remote start drag engines. Something to do with the voltage drain starting the engine i beleive.
For ease of use, the stand alones are a better bet, once they're set up and ya triggers are sorted, but it will take time to get it right....
I run the old dyna 2000 on both my bikes and within its limitations, its works well, but i have heard of the newer units failing rapidly, now whether this has been rectified or not now i dont know.
Alternatively, you could run a pro series 2 schnitz unit, these control timing and nitrous all in one box and has loads of features for timing retards and rev limits etc, but again, i know of several of these to have failed. They are repairable usually, but they're not cheap to buy and racers generally carry a spare!!
Personally, my next ignition will be DTA, does everything ya want and more, reliable, affordable..... But thats me, that suits what I want.
The choice as they say is yours fella

Steve

Hi Steve,

i can´t imagine that the 4000 will not work on a stock street bike engine!

But anyway:
Dyna 2000 Static retard but no 2 step.
Dyna 4000 2 step but no retard function (have to buy a separat unit)
Schnitz has it all but would need some more work for the crank trigger...

It isn´t gettig easier.

Sorry, forgot to mention the schnitz uses the dyna trigger module and coils (2.2 ohm i think) so thats definately an easy option, but you're looking at over £1000 GBP all in with back plate and rotor......

It used to state on the dynatek site that the 4000 unit is for remote start bikes only, this is a PRO drag ignition, its doesnt state that anymore but i suspect its still the same, i beleive its because these units need +12V to work, cranking voltage is normally 10V....

For trigger wheels for stand alones, apparently Mistral Engineering sort a few themselves, so could be worth a try.... http://www.mistralperformance.com/

Hope that helps

Steve

You´r right.

Quote:
"The 4000SP system is a full drag race only igniton and NOT recommended for use
on the street. It would require a remote starter but more importantly offers
no timing curves, as it runs at a fixed timing. Not the best way to go with a
street motor.
The 2000 system is a much better street system and quite frankly, has been
proven to support a 500 plus horsepower motor."

Well, than i´ll order the Dyna 2000.

The last two years were crazy. Zero time to drive oder make something else.
Worked and renovate the house. Also my local drag strip closed and i lost my motivation. :tard:
But i´ll complete the kart. It´s much easier to transport and find a track.

Not the latest pics.
Exhaust is done. Brakets are done.

Still to do:
Wiring
Cooling system
Some Brakelines
Final Welding
Paint or powder coating
And Nitrous

There are still some other things like Air shifter and other minor things to make it more driveable.
But right now focus is on finishing the build to start the engine and maybe for a first test drive this year.
