Guess you'll never ever need a new front tyre now eh? Lol..... Cant remember what ecu you're using, seem to recall dyna 2000?, anyway, for anyone with a stock ecu, the bandit lends itself to larger hits of gas by utilising the wheelie wires for retard

Getting to the point where i might need to retard the ignition.....

i've got the standard igntion system (no dyna 2000) and want to utilise the wheelie wires... have you any instructions?

If you ground one of those two wires out it will retard ignition a few degrees, so if you have a retard wire on your controller swith it to earth via a relay

horrendous misfire at mid revs....

you'll like this one.

I've been enjoying N20 these past few weeks and have been steadily stepping up the power. Now at 45bhp. since the last jet change, the bike developed a misfire at medium to high revs. First thoughts were Bloody Nitrous! but then i had the misfire without the nitrous being operated. i then thought that i'd clipped the earth leads off the spark plugs and then whipped them out and they were all perfect. went for another run with new plugs and the mis-fire was still there....
Bloody nitrous, i kept thinking to myself..

BUT

i had a moment of clarity, remembering that i have read ALL of this forum and that Trev's Nirtous systems are never generally [ever] the cause of problems i looked at my bike, and yes there was the issue staring me in the face...

my Scottoiler was empty...

sorry for doubting you Trev. It's all working great again this morning!

Been a while since I had a Scottoiler (1990) so I'm guessing they may have changed their design a bit by now but how did it cause a misfire. I don't know if they do other things now but all mine did was oil the chain although I do believe it was linked to the engine/gearbox in some way to alter the flow but if it ran out of oil the bike ran exactly the same. Weird :?

mine takes a feed from the vacuum off one of the carbs and yes, that's why it threw me for a while... normally it doesn't effect the engine even when it's run out, but i think it had been run out for SO long that there was a straight through path from the dripper by the sprocket to the carb. there is normally a bit of oil left in the pipe between the scottoiler outlet and the dripper. but all this was gone. maybe the N20 had some sort of blowing-it-out-effect but who knows. all i know is i put oil in and it's cured my misfire.

The reason I found it funny, was because I thought you were joking!!! :omgrofl:

At worst that should only have caused it to run A BIT lean on that cylinder, which I wouldn't expect to be enough to cause a misfire. Are you sure you didn't disturb or change anything else when you topped up the oil?

No misfire still present. But its certainly not nitrous related. Possibly coil going down? Or HT leads...
All suggestions welcome.

I'd be checking for suspect electrical connections if I were you.

have you measured the spark strength?

If not and if you haven't got one, this would be a wise purchase;

Coils tested both primary circuits OK
one secondary OK the other open circuit.

problem found.

(who suggested it was the scottoiler, what a knob)

Easily done, so don't be hard on yourself.

It's human nature to take the first and easy option but in my experience the REAL cause of any problem is usually the LAST thing you think of and/or check, which when you think about it couldn't be any other way. ;)

oh can't add a picture because "the board attachment quota has been reached"

anyways... i had a lot of frost build up around the pressure gauge is this OK?

Can't wait for the ride home

No you shouldn't have frost round the gauge as that indicates a leak. :(

Hello, when I say mounting I mean the threaded bit on the gauge. The outer casing of the gauge is a bit loose on this.
However I'm not convinced this will cause a leak so have nipped up all the fittings this morning, will try again on way to work.

(tried adding pics but got an error message)

OK with you now and no that won't cause a leak, so you were right to nip it up a bit tighter.

Host any future pics on Y-tube and just post a link to that here, untill we make the switch to a new server.
