Post subject:  Max extreme and retard questions for a noobie

I've a gsxr 750 having nitrous installed in a couple of weeks . Although I'm not fitting it or setting it up I've a few questions . I've got a max extreme v1 with race upgrade . Will this model know what gear I'm in or on activation will it just assume I'm in first gear ? .
Will the retard function activate when max extreme is switched on or will it only retard when nitrous is actually injected? I've got a tunable ignitech ignition which has 2 switchable maps so I can use one for retard
Last question is about retard again . My bike has wiseco high comp pistons , mild head work and high comp head gasket . I'm going to run 50 hp jets. To be safe how much shall I retard my ignition map . ? Is 2 degs about right . And is it ok to remap the retard only in the rpm range that nitrous will be injected , which will be 7500 rpm to 11000 . I would be really greatful for any help

It will assume you are in 1st gear - only the later V2s have the facility to 'know' what gear you're in but only if your gearbox has a suitable output signal.

Will the retard function activate when max extreme is switched on or will it only retard when nitrous is actually injected? I've got a tunable ignitech ignition which has 2 switchable maps so I can use one for retard
You can set the Max to send out a retard signal whenever you want it to.

Last question is about retard again . My bike has wiseco high comp pistons , mild head work and high comp head gasket . I'm going to run 50 hp jets. To be safe how much shall I retard my ignition map . ? Is 2 degs about right .
I'd start with 4 degrees to be sure and then try advancing 1 degree at a time and if you hear any sign of detonation, go back to the previous setting.

And is it ok to remap the retard only in the rpm range that nitrous will be injected , which will be 7500 rpm to 11000.
Most certainly.
