Looking at 2nd had kits and there are loads of second had wet systems but no dry

might sound a daft question but if I need a dry system is it just a case of not using the fuel side of the wet system? Also are the maximisers. The same for wet and dry systems ?

Did try and have a look in the forsale section but it wouldn't let me view it

Cheers

Yes dry systems basicialy only use the nitrous solenoids and leave the fuel side disconnected. I run my dry system which will do wet aswell, it's an american ZEX kit.

As long as you're talking about fitting it to diesel engines you're not at risk of causing any damage with a dry nitrous kit but otherwise might I suggest that you (and Jack) buy a copy of my book and have a good read before you wreck any petrol engines you might use, due to missing out on the wealth of knowledge it contains about this and many other important subjects.

You might also like to have a good read of the sticky thread in the general called something along the lines of; read this thread BEFORE you buy a used nitrous kit.

Be aware that JUST adding a 'dry' nitrous system to a diesel is not guaranteed to produce a noticeable power increase (in most cases its actually guaranteed NOT to do so unless it's over fuelled already) and adding a 'wet' system (using methanol or propane), puts your engine at great risk of damage unless you also add water injection.

with that statement trev can you offer anything at the moment to add fuel to a diesel ,because i think im going to be disappointed with just nitrous as my car is sooooooooo clean at the back (just de-catted by the way) sounds faster ;) i could use the money towards extra fuel rather then get the max exreme at this time ...ive looked at propane kits and such ..but i get silence the minute i mention i want it to go with nitrous ,it gets on my dam nerves :tard: at least you want me to have it

Wouldnt surprise me - It depends who you spoke to!

Yeah you wont need a huge tank - usually replacing the spare wheel with a tank is the easy option. BUT if you fill the space with tank then you could use the system all the time to save diesel.

Based on our experience of using propane on diesels it's not a simple matter, so how do the conversion kits work, do they feed it in to the manifold as we do with nitrous and if so how do they avoid detonation without timed injection of the fuel?

Hi Guys - its a simple setup.
The LPG is fed from the vaporiser straight into the manifold. It needs a cut off switch (reverse WOT really) so when you dont have your foot on the accelerator it dont flow lpg.

There is a boost sense from the turbo that as boost rises, more lpg is fed in. The kit is actually a standard PETROL unit but turned down very low with the idle mix turned as low as it will go.

I will see if the car is around and try to get a few pics. My little bro drives it daily - and has a BAD habit of using his toys :omgrofl: (Hence new engine mounts last week)

When we added propane, to make any significant power we experienced detonation, so I'm curious as to hos such a kit would work without water injection? People get away with injecting methanol by mixing it with water but that's not an option with propane unless you add a water kit.

@Ted - Yep its Tinley tech - they are pretty good for this. It is MODEST power increase only and when just using it for normal running you end up using a smaller throttle opening for the same 'speed' as you are using some LPG instead of diesel. With nitrous you will still only get a modest increase. As with anything start small and work up! I would hate for you to bust an engine.

@ Trev - Yup I definitely agree SERIOUS power requires water and stuff otherwise it dets as we know. But although Ted wants EVENTUALLY some serious power, he is looking to build up slowly so starting with LPG as an added fuel may help his pocket everyday as well as a modest bit of fuel for nitrous use.

BUT adding ANY extra fuel on a diesel (other than diesel) should always have a warning - add too much and you WILL drive over your crank!

The problem is which way do you go - more fuel with LPG or Water Meth? A remap would also help and use diesel as the extra fuel which is the SAFEST way to go. Unfortunately not all manufacturers provide diesels with enough capability in the fuel system.

**Disclaimer** - DONT forget I am talking from my experience of what I have done with a Skoda Fabia vRS - VW PD130 engine. I am confident in my data but I am NOT an expert on other makes of engine. So I have done some careful checking and answered what was asked to the best of my ability.

Please, can you quantify and clarify this for me or are you stating the bloody obvious - that every engine, not just diesels, have their limit?

maybe its stating the obvious mike but as trevor says, When we added propane, to make any significant power we experienced detonation.. i think steve was just pointing out to be careful with the amounts you put in of anything ;)
