NITROUS OXIDE ( nos / n2o ) advice forum

Hi all

New to the forum and the nitrous world and about 75% through my nitrous and water methanol install on my mk6 fiesta tdci. I want the car to be a proper sleeper, so I am hiding everything away. Hoping she will catch a few drivers by surprise when finished.

Finished the boot section today so I thought I'd post a few pics...

The cars spec is...

1.6 tdci with bluefin remap
Custom air intake with oil catch tank
Decat and longlife exhaust
WoN 150d system
WoN bottle heater
Minimax controller and pressure gauge
Devil's own water methanol system

One thing I noticed that I was concerned about was when I connected the 3 way splitter for the bottle heater. The nut and olive didn't bite the nitrous line until the nut was nearly fully wound into the splitter block. Is this normal? Or have I connected it up incorrectly?

No that's not normal, so can you show me how and what you have connected please?

I think the nitrous line should go straight and the pressure switch should come out the side as the two inline are m10x1 and the side port is 1/8th bsp

You may have damaged the thread forcing the 1/8th down the m10 hole

Sorry for the confusion but we'll get that sorted for you shortly.

OK we have the answer;

1) The threads are NOT all the same and nor are the port internal shapes.

2) The T is intended to be used so that the flow is STRAIGHT THROUGH and NOT at 90 degrees.

3) To solve the problem and maintain the plumbing as you have it now, you'd need to add one of the following components to the T outlet that you've used (effectively between the T and the pipe) and then you'll be OK;

These are the parts that came to connect the bottle heater....






Is this the correct assembly?... does the double ended silver connector screw into the bottle or am I missing something? Also does the pressure sensor require an olive or thread lock, and the same question about the connector to the bottle...

Your last picture shows the correct assembly and yes you'd need a liquid thread sealer for the switch threads but NO sealer should be used on any of the other connections.

However, if you need that 90 degree turn (as it looked as though you must), you'd have to act on my previous advice.

I will refit it correctly as I have enough slack nylon line. I have another one of these 3 way splitter s for the dash mounted pressure gauge, as the kit comes with a length of 5mm nitrous line , does this mean all the threads are M10?

Sorted out the 3 way splitter confusion for the bottle heater, which now looks like this...


Have done a bit more yesterday and this morning....got all the pipe and electrics routed through the car and engine bay....


You can just see the trunk ing running along the scuttle panel




I had a custom ally tube made up with weld on bosses for the nitrous nozzle and water methanol nozzle, on Trevor s advice so that the 2 should mix together...

Got the quick action ball valve fitted where I can easily reach it...




This morning got the minimal and nitrous gauge install ed in the glove box as so....

Got the missing washers and 1/8 bps to 5mm adapter for 3 way splitter to pressure gauge this morning...only spoke to Dave yesterday. That's what you call after sales service Can't fault you guys!

Just the minimax to plug in and microswitch to fit and then we are ready to go!!!

Does the static test procedure still apply to turbo diesels Trevor?

Glad our service was up to our usual standards.

A diesel will respond the same as a petrol engine to a static test but as you can't damage a diesel by getting the mixture wrong (unless you use methanol or propane), it's less of a concern to get it correct.

if you use methanol or propane (as I believe you are intending to do), it's MORE IMPORTANT that you get the mixture correct.

Ok. I can switch off each individual system , I.e the nitrous, water methanol, and bottle heater. So I will carry out the static test firstly with just the nitrous and then bring in the water methanol gradually so the mixture is right. At the moment I have a water/ methanol mix of 70/30. See how it perform s with that before increasing the methanol %. I do have a boost gauge and Egt gauge fitted, so I will be keeping a close eye on those...

Having water WITH the fuel (methanol) makes it MUCH safer to make power from it.

Quick question... when I assemble the 3 way splitter and the 1/8 to 5mm adapter do I just use thread lock or do I need to add a washer? Like the pressure sender and 3 way splitter for the bottle heater.

We offer 3 ways of sealing components and it usually depends on the components being put together as to which is/are suitable;

1) Internal sealing washer
2) External sealing washer
3) Taper thread

Where possible use as many options as possible AND use thread sealer, as it's better to be double or triple sure than risk a leak.

I like the dowty seal and thread lock personally but each to there own

that's why we offer a range of options, that and the fact that the Dowty washer is not always a suitable option in some instances.

Just the microswitch to fit now, water methanol now up and running with no problems. Spoke to Brett today, going to pop down to see him next month for my first nitrous fill and so he can cast an eye over my set up and check there aren't any glaring mistake s

As I can't get down to Brett s for a bit, I 've decided to have my new uprated injectors fitted next Thursday and see what difference they make before I add nitrous...

Finally got the install finished, despite the freezing conditions...oh for a heated garage. Got the microswitch fitted, a bit fiddly but we got there, and it works!




Last few finishing touches in place, control panel fitted.




Can keep it hidden when not in use...

And got some lights fitted in the wheel well....as I intend to show it.






Can't wait to start testing....
