How do these companies get away with turning out half finished work?!?!?!?!?!

Such a shame as it "LOOKS" a SERIOUS bit of kit.

I've got a suggestion for a quick way to remove the metal from the liners and block for crank clearance, just sharpen the leading edge of the couterweights and attatch a BIG drill to the crank and. LOL

Shame about the delay though and I just hope the remaining parts/work come together quick enough for the start of the season.

Best wishes

Zero chance of the new motor being ready for the first meeting,it's only 3 weeks away..

The transmission has to come out & be stripped this coming week-the trans case, bellhousing and flex plate have to be re-certified at the SFI day (10th March at the pod)
While it's in bits we will be making some upgrades to both the trans and converter to make sure we can't break 'em with the new motor :)

Unfortunately, as some of you will know, when you are putting together a "high end" motor, using almost entirely aftermarket parts(I think the only factory Ford parts remaining are the timing chain cover and the distributor hold down clamp  ) EVERYTHING is 'custom' & NOTHING fits 1st time round

I might have to scratch build an oil pan for it as well-there may be some problems with fitting our existing one to the new block-time will tell.

Fingers crossed for round 2............but we certainly won't be rushing the build and making any mistakes  Fatty's Wallet ain't big enough to build another one!!!

Once it's finally in the car the headers will need some alterations due to the height and width changes with the tall deck block and possibly some mods to the front end panel work.

Brain-Burning the candle at both ends-AGAIN :)

Someone has to make a oil pan for that block. I am sure you can buy a fabricated pan. BittletFab.com makes some of the nicest wet and dry sump pans on the market, they also have a check ball design pan thats pretty cool as well.

I wish you all the best. We might not make it out untill we can afford 8 sleves and 20 pistons and as many rings sets.

Will the Fat boys be racing with the borrowed engine at Easter or praying for rain (which by the way seems to be likely), if not can I call you to discuss the nitrous situation and if that's in order, can you PM me with your number please Brain.

Still using the borrowed motor (Thanks again to Tim Jackson)

As thing stand at the moment the trans is out of the car and will be re- fitted at the track(SFI recert was required) and we will be pulling it out again on Monday ready for some upgrades before the new motor goes in.

We intend (weather permitting) to do a single qualifying pass and spend the rest of the time putting in new wiring for the nitrous system(we had an intermittent fault last season which I "cured" by chopping out all of the solenoid wiring and replacing it with some very ugly wire and crimp butt connectors!) and fitting the new data logger.(+ the 5000 other jobs I'm bound to think of....)

Will you be making an appearance Trev?

If you are, will you have a Max Extreme with you ;)
Cheers,

Brain.

I'm pleased to hear you'll at least be getting a few points from this event. 8)

I hope to have cause to come to this event but it seems the weather isn't too promising, so I doubt that's likely to happen. However Ant will be there and I can arrange to have him drop you off a Max.

I'll be at the Thunderball on sunday with my Son as guests of InsaneRon.
Sunday is my Sons 21st Birthday and Ron has kindly allowed us to come and join his crew for the day to see what happens with the real Drag Race boys.
Should make for a good video diary eh?
I'll keep a look out for Ian and the Ford so we can say hello. Ant will be on site somewhere will he??

Hi Brain,

I didn't see any sign of you guys in the results, so did you decide to pull out and save it for another day?

How are things progressing and when is the next event?

Regards

Finally there is good news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the major pieces for the new motor are either here or on their way.
The biggest hold up has been new head studs for the aluminium block which we have been waiting 9 months for.............

I must say a big THANKS to Tim Jackson for the loan of his engine for a second season which allowed us to finish in 5th place in the Street Eliminator championship and run a best of 9.20 at just under 150mph using one of Trevs Spider plates with approx 200hp of nitrous.

Whilst waiting for the parts to arrive we haven't been idle.......we had to change the engine in our race transporter (converted coach) after melting a piston
Image
(no nitrous involved in that one )
That was HUGE task which looked likely to put us out for the rest of the season.

We have also been upgrading and making new parts for the car in preparation for the extra power we will now have. The transmission and converter have both had some new (expensive) parts fitted along with lots of other smaller changes.

I've added some pictures(in no particular order) to whet your appetite..........no drooling please!

One of our Street eliminator competitors collected the studs for us on a recent visit to the 'States,
so I guess you could say they ARE actually here, but we won't PHYSICALLY have our hands on them until next weekend at the Street Eliminator year end bash........

I'm currently modding the headers to fit the new motor so there should be more news & piccies next week.....

Brain.

Ian spoke directly with Carol Carter, the owner of C&C Motorsports-(the block manufacturer).
The exhaust side studs "may" need to be shortened 1/4-1/2" but it is a simple turning job.

We've got a fair bit of stuff done, but there is still a huge amount left to do.............

First, the bad news.............The pistons have been "lost"..........they were sat in the 'States with the roller lifters, waiting for the head studs to come off backorder, so everything could be shipped together. We managed to source the head studs ourselves, direct from the manufacturer, so sent instructions to ship the pistons & lifters - The pistons have gone missing......................

So, that's now a block, a pair of heads AND a set of pistons "lost"------You couldn't make it up!!!

Good news...........Pistons have been re-ordered, pushrods sized and ordered, rocker studs ordered,
valve spring heights checked and shims ordered.

Ian has finished porting the heads and tunnel ram. The runners on the manifold needed quite a bit of material removed to match the ports in the heads and still keed the correct shape and taper.

I've been busy working on the rest of the installation. To be honest, it's like trying to fit 20lbs of shite in a 10lb bag!!!
The dry sump set-up is almost complete- tank and pump mounted, belt drive sorted, sump 95% finished(needs a couple of hours of finish welding) and most of the lines made.

The alternator mounts and belt drive are done( bar finish welding the mounts)

Next week I hope to have the rest of the aeroquip stuff done including the radiator and other water hoses..........then it's back onto the headers.........once they are done I hope to start putting the nitrous system together

You are right, you COULD NOT make it up!!!

Let's just hope that all the bad luck is happening now, so that when you do make it to the track there's NONE left to plague you then.

Before you start the nitrous system I'd like to have a word with you about a slight improvement I'd like you to do and to check that you have everything for the nitrous system ready to go, so could you remind me (via PM) of your phone number please Brain?

Good luck with getting it ALL sorted and keep up the GREAT work.

One thing for sure, you'll have something to be VERY PROUD OF once she's finished.

Most of the fabrication work is now complete, in fact I've only got ONE more aeroquip hose left to make for the dry sump system (thank God!) There are a couple of brackets and a bit of finish welding left, which should be done in an evening or two........Then on to finishing the headers.......

The pistons "should" be here next week, so once the above is done, the block will be going back on the engine stand for trial assembly and clearance checking.

Incredible work guys!

I can really appreciate all the planning that went into routing the braided lines....brings back memories.

I'm sure the nitrous system will be as stunning in detail as the rest of the car.

Thanks for posting the pics!

It makes me smile when I think back to when we first built the '34 (14 years ago  ) It had a bone stock (worn out!)460 ford in it and ran mid 13s..............
The plan back then was to run in super street (10.90 index) and maybe one day put some nitrous on it, to try and run 9s.........

Well, here we are all those years later, with a "proper" engine, aiming to run 7s.............

Someone moved the goalposts

The primary pipes for the headers are now finished. We are waiting for all the bits to be vapour blasted before welding the collectors on. Once that's done they will be sent off for ceramic coating.

The photos don't really show how tight the clearances around the exhausts actually are..........the front pipe on each side clears the bonnet side panel by about 1/8" and about the same where the pipes pass between the chassis and front wings.

I've started on the exiting stuff!!!
It's time to start building a SERIOUS nitrous system!!!!!

looks amazing, credit to your skills :)
is it built to be optimised for nos? ie low compression?
or do you tune it for good na performance knowing its so strong itll can take a ton of nos too?
i bet the torque could rip your face off without any nos
