NITROUS OXIDE ( nos / n2o ) advice forum

Whilst I was in Malta I discovered that my son-in-law had failed to inform me that my systems are being used on the worlds quickest truck (as far as we know & unless you know different), with an 11.04s pass.

The engine is 6 cylinder 12,000cc TDI and the full details of the truck can be found here;

The truck is owned by a dedicated team of Maltese racers and while I was there I discussed further advances that could be applied to the system they are using and I'm hopeful that Marty will get that supplied & fitted soon, so they can break out of the 11s bracket and become the first to run a 10.











As you can see from the last pic it's an old system and it's been going strong for a good number of years on a number of different vehicles.

Roughly 10 years old and still going strong.

Not sure about "worlds fastest truck" since that category could include such oddities as the Jet-powered Kenworth truck (makes the rounds in the US). Also, in the late 1980s, GM made some all-wheel drive turbo 4.3 pickup trucks that could launch like a mofo and could handle quite a bit of boost- 13's from the factory and I remember several that ran 10's off the top of my head.

Regardless, that is a cool-ass truck!

Bob, the difference here is that in the UK, AUS and I'd hazard a guess, everywhere other than North America, we don't refer to "pickups" or utilities as trucks.

A truck to most of us outside the US is a prime mover - something to tow a very large tralier or trailers - an articulated vehicle like the pictures.

Thanks for that Bob and you're right about the potential of a truck with a different driving force or fuel (Jet, gasolene, etc) being quicker, so I should have added diesel to the title.

Adrian is also right in that the term truck does not mean 'pick up' in our part of the world and this vehicle is based on the description Adrian gave.

I'd still be interested in any other quick truck specs and times.

The Bandag Bullet

Officially the world’s fastest truck at 305.5 kph!


The Bandag Bullet is the world’s fastest truck after blasting down the runway at the Queensland International Air Show held at Bundaberg Airport and smashing the world record for a one kilometre run - all on the world famous standard issue Bandag cold process retreads and new Bridgestone tyres.

The Bandag Bullet set the record for a conventionally powered truck, achieving an average speed of 182.14 kph over one kilometre from a standing start. The Bullet took just 19.76 seconds to cover the distance, reaching a calculated terminal speed of 305.5 kilometres per hour.

This easily eclipses the existing record held by a Swedish manufacturer and set in September 2001 of 155.7 kph over the same distance.

Carried out under the auspices of officials from the Guinness Book of Records, driver Frank Gaffiero and the Bandag Bullet racing team expect written confirmation of their place in history shortly.

The 24 litre (1500 cubic inch) Bullet is powered by two V8 92 series engines linked together with two superchargers and four turbo chargers. When injected with nitrous oxide the power is boosted to an amazing 2,800 horsepower. The truck weighs in at eight tonnes and has some 5,600 ft/lb of torque on tap.

Basic Truck: Kenworth T400

Engine: Detroit Diesel with two V8 92’s fitted with two blowers, four turbo chargers and injected nitrous oxide. The original 75mm injectors have been increased to 210 pistons, con rods, crankshafts and camshaft have been balanced. Cylinders heads and air boxes have been ported and polished.

Capacity: 25 litres or 1500 cubic inches.

Output: 2200hp at 300rpm which can be boosted to 2800hp with the use of nitrous oxide.

Transmission: Allison Transmission CR 5940

Rear Axle: Eaton 2300 series with Detroit no spin locker

Suspension: Fitted with watts link assembly and latter bars.

Tyres: Bandag Cold Process Retreads standard compound tread on 295/80R22.5 Bridgestone radial casings for burn outs and 315/80R22.5 for drag racing.

Weight: Eight tonnes
