I went for the free day out at Santapod today.
I ran a 10.77 straight off the trailer. And backed this up with a 10.66 @ 126.51mph.

18 months ago I was aiming for a 10.99 and now it seems a 10.5 may be possible with some more tweaks.

And if that pays off, 2010 will have a new target of a 10.00 or better.

Thanks guy's :)

I havent done a flat our pass without gas for ages now Thomas. I do the odd nasp run to blow the cobwebs out if she has stood for a while. But I leave it in D and let it auto shift rather than using the ratchet.

I'll tell you what Ian and Brain!
The track was the best I've seen it for years. This is one of my gripes at RWYB like the USC event. They dont want to waste money by having to keep prepping throughout the day with cars dropping stuff all over the place. I did complain once and they shut the lane. But only ran the tractor up a couple of times. Once I was there and they kept the right lane only for cars with slicks and drag radials etc which was much better. But it caused a big argument in the fire up lane.

As soon as I rolled out of the burnout I could see the track was good. Nice matt black looking, with lots of tyre tracks fro me to line up with. So I guess the new result is because of the track prep from last weekend, and the amount oif rubber you pro guys left behind for me to play on:)
Its very frustrating to have a stonking launch, only to find it goes pearshaped halfway to do a bad surface. And its a waste of gas too.

I'm hoping there is a 9.99 in there somewhere for next year. I did set my target 4 years ago of a 10 second pass. And I've done that now, and backed it up 6 times getting a little quicker each time. But softly softly catchee monkey!! The next goal has to be a flat 10 for 2010 I reckon. There has to be a point where this old Range Rover engine just cant push anymore eh? And I dont think I'm too far off it now.

Heres my first run off the trailer

and the ambient temps will be dropping as we leave the summer behind so there's no excuse to stay in the 10's Perry.

Seriously though, a hearty congrats, it must have felt good to find it all came together after the hard work you've put in. Keep at it, that sub-10 is beckoning you 8)

Derek!
Good luck for Sunday mate

I'm seeing if I can finish nxt weekends work on Saturday so I can get to the Pod for one of Ian's cuppa's with Moo!

Someone will need to be in charge of the tissues to stop Moo dribbling when he see's Ians engine again

I'm just getting her ready for RWYB tomorrow. My Son is driving this time as a thankyou for his efforts on the car lately. I just have to get him out of his (front wheel drive) habit of feathering the pedal off the line. After his first burnout, Daddy is going open the door and say "Now stop pissing around and mash that pedal through f*****g floor Boy" :)

I've just picked up my Harcourt single plane manifold and my Weber 600cfm carb.
I'll collect my thermostat housing next week and bolt it all on.
Then I can go back to the dyno to tune the new setup.

If my theory is correct I reckon I should put out the same power with 25% less nitrous.

Or I could be talking utter shite and discover my problem is on the exhaust side :)

Either way I'm gonna enjoy finding out :D

Heres the skinny on the new 600 cfm Weber carb!!

Its shite for my application. She bogs out real lean when I go WOT from idle. I can bring rpm up to 3000 and she will pick up. But thats not what my car does. I like to stage at around 1800 rpm and then floor it so the torque converter snap locks for the launch.

I'm now going to borrow a 600 double pumper from a mate to see if this cures the fault, which I hope it will.

Heres a clip with me testing the new carb. I was only running a 100 shot for testing. She died off the line. But then I picked up the revs and let the spider plate help out. The guy in the skyline was a bit surprised to see me roll past him across the line after seeing me in his rear view mirror I reckon :)

That's the kind of problem my other customers had with that type of carb and why I was concerned about your choice due to the need for tuning to get a good result.

With a Holley you have a huge array of accelerator pump cam designs which are also adjustable and even the option change accelerator jet sizes and even pump size. Which such a wide selection of tuning components, it takes a fool to fail to get a good launch from a Holley.

What does your carb have by way of the above to optimise the launch???
