My Son has thrown a cheap 1/4 mile car together.

Basic specs:
P reg Escort
Converted to RWD
Fitted with Rover 4.6 + carb induction.
TH350 autobox
MGB 1800 rear axle
Holley 600dp
WoN plate system with a 100 shot.

Shakedown pass on carb only was 14.3
Shakedown pass with 100 shot was 12.3 with gentle launch.

Taking it out next Sunday for a balls out launch with a 150 shot added.

Hoping for a very low 12 or a high 11 second pass for the final shakedown runs of the 2012 rollout for the car.

Video isnt great as its from my son in laws phone..........

Its going to be rapid to the 1/8th for sure with a 3.9:1 Diff :)

When he can save up for a 3:1 it will have longer legs. He pulled a 1.67 in the 60 foot for that pass !! Although she looks like she walks off the line quite sedately?

Just had the tracking done and got new tyres fitted on the front and sorted out a bit of steering wander. So hopefully it will run straighter next Sunday on the first test pass. Then we can open the taps and see what she will do.

Another improvement at the Ford show today :)

12.1 seconds @ 108 mph.

60 foot time was 1.52 which we are pleased with.

But it wont go much faster than the 108mph with the low ratio diff.

But I'm very pleased with the results so far from a fresh build on a very tight budget.

As me and my Son have been WoN users on with my MGB for a few years now we knew that the trusty Rover V8 didnt need the gold card treatment to make it pretty quick on the 1/4 mile.

NASP runs are around the 14.5 second mark. With a 125 shot + extra timing retard and excess fuel she pulled a 12.1 today but we were playing safe :)

Unfortunately the weather didnt play nice. So we had to be happy with the 12.1 and go home.

Next time out we will be armed with a 200 shot available to see if the 11 seconds can be found by monstering the 1/8th mile before the gearing runs out

She did ok with the small shot on the V8 once we got the rear tyre pressures dialed in :)

Took 3 passes to get it nearly right. But just 3psi more gave us another 2/10ths :)

And yesterday with a 150 shot she made more progress. Unfortunately, I think I was responsible for actually slowing Jason down :(

I reset the distributor mech advance to match a 200 shot. As that is what we wanted to run eventually. So that should have seen the max mechanical advance at around 8 degree's of retard. So it should have been running with 24 degree's of advance all in. To reset the mech advance I have to pull the dissy apart and adjust the sliding plate to limit the mech advance. I used the correct spacer pegs and the dissy is all working fine inside. But I obviously made a mistake??

It ran 8 degree's of advance at idle as it should do, but when we wound it up it peaked at 19-20 degree's of mech advance. So a good chunk short of what it should have been :(

But we are still happy as we ran into the 11's with way too much retard and a good chunk of over fuelling to reel in an easy 11.93 @ 112 mph. It was a real smooth no drama pass 8)

It looks like the Escort is now a firm contender to chase down Austins Truck on the 1/4 mile

Another PB from last weekend...

11.9 down to 11.6 :)

You can see from the terminal speed that she leaves the line like a cat with its balls on fire :)
