We keep making minor adjustments and testing when we can.
We ran a new PB of 9.78 today and backed it up with a better time of 9.69 seconds.

Two pictures tells the story :)

Hmmm!!
I think that may be a long shot mate. But its something to aspire to eh?

I'll be happy if I can turn the 9.69 into a 9.59 for next year :)

A 9.5 second timing ticket would have to be framed and stuck on a wall somewhere in the house I think :D

Hi Pel :)

The day you run an 8 I will get you a trophy and come to the Pod to watch and give it to you.....

Just something to encourage your aspirations.....(dont forget, you never thought you would ever run a 9...... )

All the best Brett :)

Your right there mate!!
It was not that long ago that we were thinking that breaking the 10's would be the barrier for the car. Then we spent a good while hanging around in the 10.2's and 10.3's wondering if a flat 10 was possible. And now we are only 0.7 of a second away from an 8 second timing ticket ??

I guess it could well be possible after this winters modifications? This tweaked out 3.9 Rover V8 certainly does seem to want to push hard. Time will tell eh?

I'm taking the softly softly approach from now on as I want to keep this lump in one piece for as long as possible ;)

Regards
Pel

Hi Pel :)

I was discussing your car today with a friend of mine who used to run an 8 second Dodge Challenger (which he still owns)

He said that hes not sure your Rover block is strong enough to run an 8 ,but he did say that because your car is light , you could drop in a small block and run an 8.....

Just a thought for the future.....

All the best Brett :)

Thats made me even more determined to run the 8 or as close as dammit with the Rover Brett :)
I've got access to a small block chev and there is also a 4 bolt main big block at the back of the workshop. Sadly the BBC wont fit in between my chassis rails.
I think because the car only weighs 2600lbs the Rover will do it or get bloody close ?
I'm putting it on the rollers next month and I'm sure that even with the safe tune I'm running now it should make 550hp give or take a few ponies !!
And I've got a few more pounds of boost to squeeze out of the blower as well as another 150 shot of gas available on my small nitrous system. I've got my other bits from the old system to duplex which could give me 600 of gas available. But I dont think I'll need to use any of that stuff. I'm very confident with this new engine I've built. But you know that there is only one way to find out just how much it will put out eh? And thats to keep running it hard until I get an 8.99 ticket, or it goes bang

My main concerns going forward will be the tranny and the rear end holding out ;)

The small block option has been on the back burner for over a year now. And if required I could borrow a 700hp small block meth engine with a glide tranny to try out.

I'm quite looking forward to the end of the season now so I can start on some more tweaks over the winter

Hi Pel :)

I am not sure I would put more boost through the blower.... if its stable at the moment, I would leave that alone, and go for more Nitrous.....

All the best Brett :)

I totally agree mate!
The blower will max out at just over 16psi at about 6100 rpm on normal blower drive gearing. She's not making that yet because I'm not maxxing out the gear shift rpm yet. I want to see the dyno figures before I change anything about the way I'm running the gear shift points as its on a sweet spot at the moment. And I certainly will not over drive the blower because I dont want to over load or damage it :)

I can play with timing and fuel and nitrous easily. The old FRED is working just fine. I can adjust fuel pressure on the nitrous side to trim afr as I have 15psi available. At the moment I use same size jets in each as per low pressure, but run the fuel at 11psi right now which keeps AFR in the 10's so nice and rich. And I'll leave as is until I get it on the rollers. :)

Cheers Trev!
So So close to the 9.5 you suggested a while back eh ? Just missed it by 0.1 of a second dammit !!!!

I'll just keep chipping away at it from now on. One small step at a time while logging the engines data.
Sadly I think that the weather will be the downfall of any attempt at the sub 9.5 now. But I have lots to do over winter and I'll just wait patiently for the good weather next year. I have 4-5 more track days this season but I doubt the track or the weather will be any good for us from now on :(

I have to admit that the best purchase I have made in the last 2 years is the Zeitronix data logger kit. This has paid for itself many times over in not having to go to the dyno for logging on power runs. The kit logs AFR on both banks of the engine. It logs RPM and boost as well. I can set alarm limits to either give me a light / buzzer or shut down whatever I want if things go wrong.

My 20 year old FRED is still doing its job well. My 13 year old pulsoids are still doing their job well. The 7 year old WoN pressure swtiches and bottle heater are working just fine as well. I treat the pulsoids to new pistons each year and thats it really :)

I am now saving up for a set of 350hp pulsoids for next season though as I dont want to have to fit 2 pairs of pulsoids again because I want neat plumbing from now on. And I want to be able to run a 250 shot for 2014 for the sub 9.5 attempt !

I have 3 pairs of pulsoids that I could PX for some new 350hp pulsoids. I'll give Ant a call to see if he can do me a deal on those later in the year.

I'm just over the Moon that my modified Rover 3.9 has come this far in just 4 months since we took it for first shakedowns. 9.6 seconds with a Rover V8 and WoN in a 2600 lb car.

I'm Happy :D :D :D
