Last May (2013) My mum (Gwen) asked if she could accompany us to the track. So she didnt get bored we took her in her Nissan Micra for a go at RWYB
Image
At 71 (nearly 72) she caught the bug and blew a gearbox.
So we got her another car - which she promptly took to Santa Pod to see what it could do -
Image
She worked out launches and deep staging to start running .1 and better reaction times, frequently taking the extra 5 points in the RWYB points Challenge.
Image
As you can see she is focused on the pass!

I then had problems as I was working on my younger brothers Fabia diesel running maximum N2O and my own Rapind, now my mum wanted her car to be quicker!

As the Fabia was her daily driver I did not let her modify it so we purchased a Rover 75 2.5 v6 Auto (mum has had a replacement shoulder so needs auto) for £500 at Christmas 2013 for the 2014 season.

Steadily over the year we have reduced its weight and worked on the car for more speed. It started at 17.9 and we slowly got it down to 17.1. For Mothers Day Mum requested Nitrous as both my brother and myself run it in our cars. A cheap kit was found on ebay for £200 (11lb bottle and 2 pulsoids) I serviced these and installed a 20 shot from stuff we have about from our kits, spares from myself and Perry. A Lash up to get it in and working.
Straight out the car ran 16.8. This was a straight hit going on at full throttle. This was increased to 50 and 15.7 came around. This went down to 15.45 with a 60 shot.

As my brother was done racing for the year and was taking the kit out of his car prior to selling it then I stole it and installed it in Mums Rover for last saturday - last run of the season. Mum had wanted a 15 second run but as that had been achieved she wanted 14 or faster.

Straight out with a 60 shot running from 30% over 2 seconds she ran 15.25
Image
she put in a better burnout and I upped the start power to 60 over 2 seconds and she ran 14.7 - goal achieved I though! Oh No mum now wanted to beat my 14.45 best. Ok then I upped the power to 75 and it ran 14.6. I then increased this to 80 and it ran 14.5. I tried a few settings but it wouldnt go quicker.

So I put in 100 jets and she ran 14.38 - target achieved - It STILL wasnt enough for Gwen!
So I put in 125 jets but left the fuel as I know it was running rich. The pulsoid we have wont run more than about 110 so that was it - maximum nitrous without spending more money!
This is a scared skyline from earlier in the day!

This is Saturday 14th October 2014 - running 14.37 @ 98mph

Gwen wanted to race the Skyline - poor bloke didnt know what hit him!

So if anyone says Drag racing isnt for them because - just show them my Mum racing!

********************AWESOME!!!!!*********************

Tell your Mum she has my sincere respect and all credit to her for such an outstanding achievement. :salute:

As a side line she is also our oldest ever female customer.

That should make NATIONAL news and you should contact all the TV channels and make her a STAR.

Too be honest Trev, too bloody right!

This would make an awesome story for TV or some of the national papers, let alone just the local ones!

I think it's a fantastic story!

Hi Stevie!

Thats a good concise report on Gwens progress so far mate. :)

I'm lucky enough to know Gwen. She is certainly a character! I remember when she asked for nitrous earlier this year. We were all in the pits and Gwenny was doing her normal hot laps while most of us were cooling our engines. EVENTUALLY she came in for a pit stop. It was Mothers day wasnt it ? I asked her if she had got anything nice for Mothers day. Her reply was classic mate! She said "The boys normally get me flowers and chocolates, but I said bugger that, I want nitrous, and I want it quick"

Apart from being a complete HOONIGAN on track, she makes a mean cuppa and bacon buttie :)

Stevie is proud of Mum, but I reckon the more she gets into Nitrous, the less time he will see in his own race car ;)

GO GO GWEN !!!!
