Weird, huh?
I've never experienced this before. The neddle
would stay a hair past 1/2 for who knows how
long *alittle hot*.

I changed the oil today and it stays at 2/4 and a hair before 1/2 at idle.
It's a 90 degree day and the temp. gauge was solid.

The oil was 3 months and acouple weeks old. I used "high milage" castrol. I put in the new GTX castrol for the new oil.

Maybe your motor doesn't like that "high mileage" type of oil and caused more friction/heat.

It started to heat up alittle while ago.
I think that months of corrosive blow-by gasses
broke down the oil and after a while it couldn't do it's job good.

If your motor is in that bad of shape that would make sense.

MY FIRST POST!

I can quote from experiance - When I was running 2 Pug 306 production touring cars we switched from a 10-40 engine oil to a 0-5 engine oil, the oil temp trace on the PI logger showed a 8 deg inc. Also the engine RPM trace accelerated quicker (only small).
The engine builder also reported no additional wear to componants.

The water temp did not change. It was just the oil which went upto between 115 and 125 deg. Getting iffy at 130 deg.
We did not comletly analise it!

Interesting. I would love to know all the reasons behind this and what other things it affected etc.

interesting. i thought thicker oils would keep the engine cooler and cause 'less' friction that a thinner type, but thinner would make it more 'free' to produce power...?

Holy thread ressurection! How frequent do you mean ^^^ 3 months? What grade?

On the basis that the thicker oil takes longer to heat up, surely that would handle heat better than a thinner oil, as those oils heat up a lot quicker. But then is it a case of the higher density oil retaining and eeking out more heat than the thinner oil because it's got 'more' hot oil around it...only Trev will know. (lol @ only Trev will know, when I was meant to write Only Lord knows!)
