Hi everyone who remembers me,
as most of you know the v8 in my capri had an annoying missfire appear August 2008 after a rolling road session,
after many suggestions on what to check i finally gave in and lost interest in the car and was very close to selling it all on and saying F@@k it,
the wife talked me into keeping the car, and said put it in the garage until you have the enthusiasm to do it again.

December 2008 i was offered a 4.6 crate engine by caprisport who sponsor my car,
The enthusiasm was back

on arrival of the engine, ideas started going around in both caprisports and my head,
forged pistons, better rods, etc etc,
Then Jan 2009, i was hit with a 15% paycut which ended the engine mods,
March 2009 i got offered a set of balanced 4.0 pistons with valve reliefs on 4.6 rods,
takes the comp ratio from 9.35 to around 11.1, (less than this with my cam duration),

So the build began,
new 4.6 cross bolted block with crower 50233 cam, and ARP head studs,
Image

Stg3 V8Developments heads fitted, rhoads hi rev bleed down lifters, and vernier adjustable timing set,
the cam is held in place with a cam retainer plate also,
Image

Rare as rocking horse s@@t interim serpentine front timing cover setup, brand NEW good ole ebay,
Image

Crank 36-1 trigger wheel fitted,
Image
more to follow,

caprisport came up trumps again, this time a new R380 gearbox,

Tunnel removed AGAIN...
and shortened gear remote on the R380 gearbox (box is longer than the old LT77)
Image

New gearbox mount lifting the gearbox higher into the tunnel,
Image

Block sits nice and low sump clears the steering rack by about an inch now.
Image

The tunnels now done,

And the new ecu fixing is nearly finished,

First take a sheet of Ally, and workout what you want to fix onto it,
Image

Then after a bit of cutting drilling and fettling, work out where you are going to mount it all,
Image

ecu bracket spacers bolted through the floor and carpet trimmed to go over the spacers.
Image

Starting of the rewire of the ecu relays and fusebox,
Image

Finished, now comes the wiring job from the fusebox and relays back to the ecu,
Image

All finished and ecu wired in,

Sure will BMW840, but that all relies on the new ecu software being finished so i can use the maximiser retard output to trigger the retard on the ecu, hope to have it done Jan 2010,

Yup will do Pel,
a few things to iron out first though before i take the car on a long journey,

The retard issue was my biggest battle, but was finally overcome with some clever software from EvolveYourCar. I have 5 maps, all switcheable on the fly.

there is a new firmware version in motion as we talk with the nitrous retard input feature for my ecu.
but theres a few issues/bugs regarding the lambda and ve tables which are being sorted,
once its sorted the retard will be the easy part for me :alien:

also anyone know why im not getting any post reply notifications anymore?

well the car has been running fooking faultless except for a slight bit of oil smoke on over run which has slowly gotten worse,
we decided to drop the heads off ready to do a ring change in case i had not seated the rings in the bores on runing in correctly.

to our horror we found this on cylinder 8:

Image

and cylinder 4:
Image

the company that fitted the high comp pistons to the conrods fooked up, (not doing the name and shame thing as im not like that)
I bought the piston/rod combo off a member on my forum, who had the work done prior to me buying it all,
and now the company dont want to know as was a cash sale, my loss,

the engine is ready to be sent up to v8 developments in spalding to be top hat linered,
have the old rods removed and the pistons fitted to my new rods, and then the whole bottom end assembley lightened and balanced, before being shipped back to me to rebuild it for the second time :-(

now every one knows why i have been in hiding,
was absolutley devastated when finding this,

the worrying thing was the car made no horrid noises, no knocks or bangs and went like fook,

Keep at it Coops!!
Wont be long now mate. When I spoke to you a while back just after you found the damage I was expecting to see you on the local news wandering naked along the A34 with your pants on your head and a pencil up each nostril :)

You were in a bit of a tizz mate. But..... You now have the bit back between your teeth and are raring to go.

I'll be pit beeatch for you at the Ford Show if you want to do some gas tinkering :)

did they not show that bit on the news?
didnt have pencils used 1/4 drive socket extentions, bit cold up the nose.

rapid blueEngine goes away Monday 29th march, Ray at v8d recons 3-4 weeks before i have it back with me,

sure have got the bit between me teeth again Pel, being my bitch at the ford show sounds good mate,
will start off light on the gas and build it up slowly again as its running a higher compression this time round compared to the old 3.9 that was in there with 150bhp gas.

plus i dont want to go to mad as got the supercharger to go on to towards the end of the year :bounce:

cheers Trev,
its been an expensive start to the year that has hampered me getting to the track so far,
Fingers crossed the car will do her first run at the retro show on the 18th July,
doubt it will be on gas though, as not got the money to play with at present to send the pulsoids back to you for servicing,
so will have to see what she does off gas that weekend,

also have this little piece of kit to play with next year

Hey Tony, man I am gutted for you and the problems you have had and I know how you feel X 100 as its amazing the people all over the world who have no pride in what they do or how they service the public.

I like what you have done though and keep it up...Tony is that block ally or cast iron,it looks like you have had sleves or liners instaled where the original build and block there were none? What ever was done i hope they tourqe plate honed the bores .What head gaskets did you use?

Keep us posted and good luck my friend and I hope to get over there next year so i can catch up with all....

Hi JB,
sorry for the late reply mate,
been a bit busy repairing the car again :tard:

the block is ally, and has had the old liners removed and top hat liners installed,
the engine runs like a dream, in fact to good if im honest as its gona cost more money now

as at the retro show at santa pod this year (july) i only managed 1/2 a run,
the car with old 3.9 engine and 150 shot of gas ran 1.8 60ft's,
with the new engine she now runs 1.9 60ft's with NO gas...(broken pulsoid so no gas runs)
the problem is on changing into second gear she hooked up that good it broke the suspension mounts off the axle, firing the diff nose and prop into the tunnel leaving a huge dent, twisted both half shafts and bent the prop in two places

im not returning to the track until we sort out the rear end, looking at 5 linking her now,

funny thing was though i finished 13th that day and ran quicker than some of the cossies running and i shut off mid track due to the damage and being undrivable :omgrofl:

still managed a 14.8 1/4, i recon that was going to be my first 12sec run with no gas,

Stop making excuses and get the bloody car ready for our long awaited heads up Tony :D

Seriously dude!
I'm feeling your pain. I've been there many times myself..... But its all R&D for us eh??
You just did what thousands of us have done over the years on our cars. You just found the next weak link in the chain

I've got spare pulsoids if you want to swap one over. I'm sure its something simple. Is it nitrous or fuel pulsoid??

Pel
