OK to get this section started I'm going to share a domestic tip with you all;

A year or so ago I had a recently new fridge door seal fail. Unfortunately although new seals were available, it was IMPOSSIBLE to fit them as a replacement.

Consequently I had to buy a new fridge, which I was particularly annoyed about, as it was a major waste and because fridges cause a major green issue, in addition to the general problems with recycling them.

Well that was bad enough but about a year after buying the new fridge, the seals went on that as well.

Rather than repeat the process I decided to take a look at repairing the seal and did so as follows;

1) Reposition the magnet strip within the plastic cover
2) Reposition the outer cover as well as possible, using super glue

Surprisingly this all ended up looking quite decent but I knew that if that was all I was going to do, it wouldn't be long before it failed again.

After taking a good look at the operation of the door/seal, I concluded that the seal failure was being caused by the way the seal was tightened and dragged across the surface of the metal of the main body/case and decided that a smear of Vaseline may well be a good cure for that.

6 months or more later and 'the fix' seems to be holding strong and there's so far no further sign of impending failure.

Therefore the main tip is this;

Don't wait till the seal tears open, smear some Vaseline on the seal face (hinge side) NOW and save yourself the trouble of the inevitable failure, whilst also saving money and the planet in the process. :idea:
