I have a system fitted to my mk1 gti and I was wondering at what revs is it safe/optimal to introduce the nos. I've read elsewhere that to offer a wide open throttle and in my installation the nos, before the revs pick up can cause damage? I find myself holding back with pre nos acceleration In fear of activating the nos too early.
I've just fitted a rev counter with shift light to help with this.
Engines is 2.0 8v big valve head, mild cam, standard fuel/ignition running 160bhp with 50 bhp shot of nos, thanks.

I'm sure Trev has mentioned to me before that it's normally 500rpm of the RedLine, but I could be wrong.

Have you got a MiniMax added to the system at all, if not I'd recommend getting one

As long as the engine is FREE to accelerate you can use nitrous at ANY rpm, so as long as you're not labouring in a high gear struggling to climb a hill (for an extreme example) and then activate the system at ANY rpm, you 'should' be OK.
Basically, as long as you drive the car normally and avoid activating the nitrous 'the instant' you start 'initial' acceleration, all should go well.

Thanks for the advice, i looked up the controllers on the website, i didn't realise nitrous controllers would work with my engine (thinking that they worked with the ECU and needed a throttle sensor). Currently enjoying the extra "kick" on full throttle but every time I think I've got enough power I find myself looking for more!
Anyone using a progressive controller on a similar 80s 4 cylinder 8v engine?!!

I use a minimax on a 4 cylinder engine from 1989 although it is almost 1/2 the size of yours. At the moment I use a very small shot but I have used up to 75 in the past both with and without a controller.

I have a short build time from 70 % currently and launch from about 2500-3000 rpm. I use the nitrous from about then when playing with other road users as well. My engine revs out just over 6000 so I am quite quick through the gears. The nitrous gives masses of torque compared to running with out!

I've designed my range of controllers to work on ANY vehicle and to deliver optimum results on all of them, so there's no reason for not using one on your car. Although you lose a bit of the kick, it is replaced by an equally exhilarating 'thrust' (for want of a better word), as the power just grows and the initial experience seems sustained for longer, plus if you go for a Max, it offers you a number of window switches, one of which is an RPM window switch which will prevent you having the system active in parts of the rpm range (upper and lower), where the risks of use are greater.
It also offers a range of other features, all of which increase safety as well as performance and efficiency.

I've got hold of a secondhand minimax controller (well Xmas day I will thanks wife), I've found the relevant installation instructions but i was wondering if anyone had any advice on intitial setup, what % and build up time at what revs e.t.c? I don't use it on the strip or anything I just want to accelerate through the gears on full throttle and use the nos safely at optimum settings. Thanks

Nobody can give you advice on that, as it's all down to a number of variable and preferences, which is why its user adjustable.

Just take a stab at the settings and adjust it from there based on your results.
