Here's the quote from Martin in response to my question about why his engine failed;

total seal were absolute rubbish for me

This is NOT what I want to see about TOTALSEAL, 1 week away from a re-build.
What is the reason for this comment?

I wouldn't worry about that Richard as Martin (& especially Johnny) were throwing a lot more nitrous in to their engines that you will be doing, so such issues should not be a concern. ;)

Just to add once again my opinions and thoughts,I have used Total Seal and used there gapless top ring set that were Stainless and coated.I had no problems really with Total seal at all but they dont make a tool steel ring. There are only a few ring manufatures in the world and those companys make them for alot of people. Also when ever changes were made like to the TS rings sometimes differant bore finishes are needed..just like with the tool steel needed a ruff bore finsh to seal...Drag only motors need to seal quickly and they usally did when everthing was done correctly. I only used a small amount of WD-40 cyl. lube on the tops of the bores.once again drag only not a street strip engine and that was a differant finish of the bores...

As long as you follow what TS says in reguards to how the bore is finished then you will be fine,also the end gap if you have to fit them to the bore. Remember when ever you do the gapping bigger is better as the top ring takes the abuse and is also responsable for the seal of a bore.The top ring is part of what helps remove heat rom the piston so opening up a gap .15mm more even is very minor if any at all loss of power N/A but on nitrous it can be the differance from sealing to losing it...

The biggest mistake made is making sure the bores are clean before assembly,I always used a paint thiner with a clean white rag and if anything transferd to the rag i knew it wasnt clean. Total seal also makes a product for help in sealing bores. I have never used it but heard it did a very good job...
You wont have any problem with TS in honest opinion.

Thanks for your response Johnny.
I am treating this like a major operation and hopefully have covered as much as is possible.
I have combined all the information from JE Pistons and TS wrt gapping and bore preparation.
There is another thread running covering the re-build and it was thanks to this forum that we even got a set of ARP studs to replace the crappy stretch bolts.
Exciting times ahead, if it all comes together :D
