Hi All :)

Just to let you know that I will be trying to beat my own 1/4 mile record for UK 928`s on the 17th September 2011.

I will be taking a friend with me to video the runs.

My current record stands at 13.03 at 113 mph.

I am hoping that with my new Wizards of Nos Revo nitrous system to turn up the power a little this time to around 1300 hp in total and so would hopefully be in the 12`s or possibly the 11`s ...

It will be run on an old World War 11 American bomber airfield at Baker Barracks on Thorney Island where the track is made from sectionalised concrete , and the traction is not great to say the least lol.

But its where I took my last record , last year and as the day is in aid of Help for Heroes , I am fond of running there

Anyone in the UK is welcome to come and watch.

If I get a low 12 , it will be the WORLD record for 928s...currently held at 12.434 at 117 mph by an American weird twin rear turbo 5 ltr 928 ...

All the best Brett :)

If I actually get paid this week as I'm hoping then I may pop down for a visit, only a couple of hours down the road and I could do with a day out

Good luck Brett and Sam!!

I'll be in london on 17th and 18th relocating a load of refrigeration equipment for the NHS...

A crap job but they are paying me £70 an hour to do the work....

So in 6 weeks I'll be rich enough to buy the rest of the stuff I need to finish my 9 second engine :)

This is getting interesting re the maths !!
1300hp in a car weighing ???

My car is geared for 1/4 miles. It weighs 3000 lbs with me in it. It has 400hp at the rear wheels and runs low 10's. The torque figure for my car is around 550 ft/lbs.
My final drive from the gearbox is obviously 1:1 into a diff running a ratio of 3.07:1 onto rear tyres 28" tall.

Can anyone work out the sums if Brett can give us his gear ratio and power etc..

It would be fun to see if these racing calculators can predict Bretts ET on this 1/4 mile attempt ??

We can all make a guess at Bretts new ET before he even does it.

Brett!!
Give us all the data on your setup so we can have a sweepstake on your ET on the day.

I'll bet £10 that brett beats his old PB. I'll donate this to Brett via paypal so he can pass it on to Help for Heros.

Anyone else want to have a gamble for charity??

Regards
Perry

I did a 12.4@115mph in the lardy Mitsubishi GTO TT and that only had around 450hp (rough estimate?).

At 1000whp one has gone 8.6@168mph so you should be in the 10`s at least with 1300bhp?.

Hi :)

The 928 weighs 3800 lbs

Diff is a 2.35 (auto) geared - for top speed runs

18 X 10 WHEELS with 275/40/18s - for top speed runs

The main problem with any calculation will be how appalling the traction is there...last year I had to dial in a 2 second delay to the MAXX and still had a major problem getting the power down :(

All the best Brett :)

The GTO weighs in at 1800kg, 3900lb.

What are your 60ft times?.

Fair enough with the gearing and traction!.

Good luck with your record attempt :D.

With over 1000bhp if you are not sub 10 you are not really trying! Even if you are geared for top speed you should be in the 9s at well over 160mph..............

That assumes adequate traction and MUCH MORE!!!

I have numerous customers who 'IN THEORY' should be running MUCH quicker than they have so far but for NUMEROUS reasons (most beyond mine and their control), they've yet to do so and I can assure you Dave, they are all TRYING VERY HARD!!! :beatstick:

That may well be the case, but there is a MASSIVE difference between the 9s that Brett should be running and the 13s he actually is. With well over 1000bhp available something is not working!

Terminal speeds are a really good indicator of how much power a car/bike is making I'm not used to working out RWD/auto but on a lighter but FWD car 500hp is around 130mph.

Considering how light an AX will be I'd say around 200HP +/- 20hp with a healthy amount of torque from the nitrous

With 1300bhp, even on a very poor start, it should be seeing 150mph+ terminals.

I dont believe those power figures for a second TBH, it would be SO much quicker than it is if it was anywhere near that.

Put it on a rolling road Brett, I think you will be surprised at the amount of power you havent got that you think you have!

In the case of my BMW840 it was proved (through diagnostics) to be engine management holding it back. I have read through the BMW forum and the general consensus is that the early management systems where extreemly OTT. Erring far to much on caution. With modern ones, like in the M3, the sensitivity can be adjusted.
I'm sure Bretts Porsche also has engine management.

The more power you have the SLOWER you'll run on a poor track. It's MUCH easier to run a decent time with a low powered car on a poor track than it is to do so with a high powered track.

One of the main reasons Brett hasn't run quicker (besides the track conditions), is that he has an excessively heavy right foot and even on reasonably good tracks, he has so much power that he blows the tires away.

Brett likes to quote the 'top line' power numbers (mainly to annoy his critics I believe) and obviously the 'actual' power he's been able to use so far has been much less but even if we only acknowledge the bottom line numbers, he still has MORE THAN ENOUGH to achieve his goals, assuming track conditions and traction are good and/or he manages to select appropriate REVO/Max settings to achieve optimum acceleration.
