Whats the backup method if like me the static test doesnt work for you.
Im sure i was told but many moons have passed and i was waiting till summer to get traction and the best out of kit. so i forgot and im sure it would be of help to others. (even if others are a rare bunch) :( i mean if theres something else other than jumping to road test with 25`s and checkin plugs.

Road testing / plug checking on 25hp and at each 25hp after that isn't "jumping" anywhere.

The static test is a really great tool to have and it can really be a big help, but it's simply a tool, one that should always be backed up on the road.

Here's a couple of video clips showing a static test being carried out on a Pro Mod spec engine.

The first is using a progressive 80 hp set up and the second was holding a 600 hp shot at 120 hp by having the progressive unit set at JUST 20%

The difference in response considering its only a 40 hp increase is quite AMAZING!!

Didn't your Dad ever tell you "to do as he said not as he did" ?!?!?!?!

After 30 years of practice I'm reasonably competent at doing static tests now but in the hands of a novice, anything other than using small jets could end in tears, so I give gaurded advice. ;)

There's a number of things I do in a different or more extreme way than I advice my customers to do and only pass of such advice/information when I feel a customer needs it.

Here's a very good video clip of a customer carrying out a static test which indicated that the mixture was too rich by the low rpm rise (short of the red line). The reading by the AFR meter (left) dropping to 10:1 confirms that conclusion and confirms that the static test is a good indicator of the mixture ratio. :)

I'm glad its not just me that gets so excited about doing something that they miss out the obvious piece of info..

Whats all the mist coming back out of the trumpets! Nitrous??
I guess the nitrous is being put in above the butterfies and the fuel underneath?
I cant tell form the clip. Is this a pro injection style system?

I would think that a road test at WOT would see the engine going like stink when the flaps were open?
