When joining 2 COMPONENTS (as opposed to a pipe to a component), REGARDLESS OF WHATEVER the thread sizes being screwed together and whether they match perfectly or not and for whatever purpose, should follow these instructions.
The same principles apply to ALL types of application (water, gas, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc) but particularly apply to nitrous and fuel as they are so hard to seal due to pressure, etc.
ALL THREADED COMPONENTS should be sealed by one or more of the following methods;
1) A SUITABLE liquid sealer - LIQUID PTFE (NOT tape) being the most suitable.
2) A compressible seal between the end of the male fitting as it butts up to the bottom of the female fitting its being screwed in to.
3) A restrained ‘O’ ring or a Dowty type sealing washer between the flange on the male threaded component and the top face of the female component.
WHEN WE SUPPLY ALL THE PARTS A CUSTOMER NEEDS TO SCREW TOGETHER AT THE SAME TIME, WE SUPPLY EITHER OPTION 2 OR 3 & EXPECT CUSTOMERS TO BE INFORMED ENOUGH TO CARRY OUT OPTION 1 THEMSELVES, SO THEY HAVE A BELTS & BRACES DOUBLE SEAL.
To ensure this is the case, earlier today I personally tested the assembly of ALL the T’s we sell in conjunction with the pressure gauges, switches and transducers we sell them with, using the sealing options 2 & 3 ALONE (WITHOUT LIQUID SEALANT) and they ALL sealed PERFECTLY.
Furthermore ANYONE who has a sealing problem when they;
1) Have not purchased ALL the parts they are screwing together from us.
2) Have not consulted us on what is needed to achieve a reliable seal (especially when using mismatched parts), prior to making a purchase.
3) Do not order from us or purchase from elsewhere suitable parts as described in options 2 & 3.
4) Do not use a suitable sealant on the threads IN ADDITION to option 2 or 3.
5) Do use the appropriate components and sealant, ONLY HAVE THEMSELVES TO BLAME.
