Saturday 23rd July......

I've booked a dyno for the day. I'll have a small assortment of cars on site. The cars are quite a wide variety from 4 to 8 cylinders, some nasp, some turbo , some nitrous and some with all of the above :)

I like to get 10-14 cars for the day as it makes it quite a nice meet up. Any WoN folk want to join in?
Several places aleady booked so it would be nice to see a few of our won cars on site :)

Time on the dyno depends on what you want. Some of the EFI boys stay on the rollers for several pulls while doing laptop fiddling in between and then get off. Some folk do a pull then get off the rollers to tinker outside before getting back on again. You can have whatever you want logged on the chart. Some folk just do one pull to log hp and torque. I tend to log afr + manifold pressure as well as power.

Its quit a good social meet up to be honest. Doors open about 8.30am when I take names for the running list. We normally get done no later than 4pm. If you just want to do a pull and then go its up to you. Most folk hang around after they have done to take part in the rest of the day to banter and share ideas etc...

Its £40 per car (cash is best) and this includes a free BBQ and all the tea and coffee you can drink in a day :)

If the idea of a won users dyno day I appealing I can arrange one each year like I do for the other 3 clubs I do them for.

This is the current running list:
1. Perry Fiat Coupe turbo + nos (cost 200 notes and I bet it tops 240hp)
2. Kev and the Disco
3. Dave Smith Fisher Fury V8
4. reserved....
5. Jason (perrys Son) Focus ST
6. John Taylor. MGB Roadster V8.
7. Tony Cooper Capri, possible ??
8. Steve West. Skoda RapidBlue
9. Other Steve and Skoda RapidRed

This is where it all happens :

Regards
Perry

Is there a refiller nearby Perry? As I'm in Hemel during the week I may as well stay up over night Friday instead of heading back down South and coming back on myself

I've got some bottles you can use for your dyno runs. What bottle connection do you have. 5mm or -4 ?? I've got both :)

You are a star, thanks

I'll get it filled this Friday when I go back home so hopefully it will last as I will probably only do a few runs (I'm curious as to where the best location for the injector is, closer or further away from the TB). Was just thinking just incase it runs out

Must get hold of a bigger bottle but that money is needed for the Emerald remap at the moment :loser:

Judging by your track times you could probably do better with some slicks??
Debs ran 14.00 on the 1/4 mile with a 60-75 shot in her TF. :)

I've got a pair of TF rims with almost new MT Drag Slicks fitted should you be interested in buying some ???

Unfortunately Debs started with an extra 20bhp almost and stronger pistons than me :( Hopefully with the Emerald fitted and mapped I can safely ramp up the power a bit anyway and get some better times.

Are they the 16" 11 spokes? Either way I would be interested as we did suffer a bit of wheelspin off the line on Saturday  How much do you have in mind?

Thinking about some test runs Pel -

Might try the disco and see if we can turn it up a little and also the Green Octavia to show what a STANDARD Skoda can do!

Mr Red will definitely be coming so I am building a second A bar for his car (as well as putting 5th back on mine)

As long as we can run the two rapid's's's's' - not often you get a rusty Skoda dyno shoot out :omgrofl:

That's ok, no worries. I'd probably be stretching myself a bit much really to get them so will wait a little while longer and get some further down the line

Other than a slight problem with my AFR gauge I'm ready and really looking forward to this  You'll have to excuse the state of my car and the wiring though as it's all part stripped out and done temporarily :loser:

Just a quick question, is the price £40 per run or is it per car and then we fight over the number of runs :omgrofl:

Its £40 per car for as many runs as we can get in. Dont worry about AFR as Martin can stick his probe up your pipe if you want him to..

The £40 includes a couple of burgers from the BBQ and all the tea and coffed you can drink :)

Do you need me to bring some gas for you ??

Sweet, burgers are always good  The only problem with the gauge is the fact it heats the O2 sensor before being used so that it doesn't get damaged whilst the engine's running, I think it's power related anyway so will have a play over the week.

I should hopefully be ok for gas but thankyou anyway. Got it filled on Saturday and being restrained this week

Thanks to all who turned up today.
I think everyone enjoyed themselves. It was nice to see folk from other car forums I use who have never met bcoming friends so quickly. Lots of tinkering and banter going on to boot :)

I think everyone went away today with good info and more ideas about tuning for future testing.

I wound the boost up on my little Fiat turbo and got 233hp and then added just a 40 shot of nitrous to get 251hp but it went really rich lambda 0.61 (8.97 afr) and I didnt have any small jets so I couldnt tinker. But at least it shows that there is more too come from the liitle Fiat. Martin said that he could fix me up with a piggy back chip or ecu thing so i could have a nitrous map for more tuning.

Dan!
Your car ran way too rich on gas hence the hesitation. Make sure that bottle is actually full. There was certainly liquid present when I gently cracked the pipe connection. You could see from the static test that it didnt pull rpm very fast and it faultered at 5300rpm. RICH RICH RICH!!!

Before you tinker with re jetting get some digital scales. Weigh the bottle so you know what you have in there. And ideally try to get a nitrous pessure gauge in the line, this is quite important.. Then check the nitrous filter to make sure its clean. Then you need to do a nitrous flow test and weigh the bottle again. I'll see if I can dig out my old sheets on nitrous consumption. You wont need to disconnect the wiring from the fuel pulsoid as the engine will not be running when you do this test. Take the nitrous pipe off the crossfire and make sure its not gonna spray you in the face :) Then activate the nitrous pulsoid for 5 seconds and weigh the bottle again. if the drop in weight is correct for the jetting you have... THEN you can look at re jetting for less fuel.
If I cant dig out my sheets Ant at Won will tell you how much gas you should use in 5 seconds for your jet size.
Once you have this info you have a starting point for re tuning ;)

Thanks to all you guys for supporting the event. And a big shout out to the Skoda Boys.. Everyone at the Dyno loves to see the Rapids turning up :)

Catch up soon dudes!!

Regards
Pel

Thanks for hosting another great day Pel!

Some interesting numbers were run! And certainly some pretty amazing surprises  :omgrofl:

I just guess that what one manufacturer calls standard another member of the same group just tries to do better!

I will try to get some video up.

I wonder if a jet from a v8 carb would richen up Rapid Red enough to give it the extra 30 bhp its missing? That car should easy do 100 I think!

Try jets from an SU HIF6 carb from a Rover 3500 V8 Steve... Should be a good starting point eh??
The carb is jetted for around 1750cc so with a 1300 @ 8psi of boost it might be in the right ball park??

Bit of a necropost I know but a friend asked me today about getting his TF on a rolling road and I remembered this day out! The link doesn't appear to work anymore and I can't remember the name of the place :( Are they still around?

Thanks Perry

Hoping to get up there once my new clutch is bedded in and I've wired up the controller for a 100bhp shot :D

Best get back out there and finish putting the head back on really!

Congrats on the 9 second pass
