The Marangoni fast is next Sunday.

I'll be there, but not with my MGB. I'll be with my Son and his first ever track car.

Its been a mad rush to cobble the car together for his birthday weekend. And when I say cobble. I mean Cobble. Its been thrown together with whatever spares I had in the garage.

MK6 Escort converted to rear wheel drive with Chevy TH350 auto transmission and 4.6 litres of Rovers finest ally V8 up front.

We havent even turned the engine over yet and he's already going on about fitting the nitrous system spider plate

No way!!
Not until I'm happy its going to steer and stop ok. 8)

The car will be there all weekend but I wont be there until late on Saturday due to work, so I wont even be able to set the engine up until then.

Hopefully it will make at least one gentle pass on the 1/4 mile on the Sunday.

Then it will be another mad rush the following week to iron out any niggles before we take it back to the Pod for more testing on 31st March for RWYB.

FWD unit in the bin and lots of metal removed.

4.6 and chevy tranny all bolted together.

And what the Escort should have under the bonnet :)

Yes good luck toyour lad Pel.

Not running gas on the first meeting?
That inlet looks like its blanked off for direct port. Get it all rigged up sharpish just in case.

The first run will net a 12.5 @ 110 with no fuss then he will be screaming for more power :omgrofl:

I nicked the crossfires for my DP setup. Jay wants the spider system on the Escort as it wont fit my blower rig now ?? Crafty little spare part thief he is :)

Good Luck Perry & Jason, wish I could have seen it first hand.
A proud day indeed

Just thought I'll need a new username if I'm to keep in touch :(

I went along today, didn't see your sons car though. I thought it was a pretty good show overall and its given me a kick up the arse and some incentive to get back running the gas!

Yo Big Dave!!!

She ran a 14.3 @ 95mph with soft launch and rpm limited to 5000 so I could check MPH vs terminal speed.

Rear axle ratio is wrong. Its an 1800 mgb axle with a 3.9:1 diff and it should be an mgb v8 axle with 3.07:1 so it has very short legs.

At least I know that another 500rpm will get him over the 100mph barrier. And with a bit of spray next Saturday he should drop nicely into the 13's :)

If he can save up for a better cam and a new diff by the end of the year I'll have that thing running mid to low 12's easy ;)

Perry

Well done Pel n son.

I predicted 12.5 but i thought you had the car better prepared than that

Like you say, just sort the details and the times will tumble.
A little suprised the terminals that short on that axle. Those rears look big enough to make up the difference.

What are they? 28's?

ETA
i just did some sums.
Those rears must be 26" dia max or the 5000 rpm is out.

28's on the rear would give 117 @ 5500 which should be about right for that mid to low 12 ;)

So are you saying the car hit 5000 rpm in top ie 1:1 gear.

On a 28" tyre and a 3.91 :1 axle that should give about 107

Either rpm is out (95 mph would be just over 4400 rpm), tyre is shorter, Jason let off before the trap :?

Or am i missing something?

He was a b it vague when I asked questions. It was his first day with the car and he may well have made a mistake. This Saturday I'll check the tacho with my portable one and I'll set the shift light at 5000 rpm so he keeps going until he see's the light :)
