Well today was????
Interesting.
We still have some minor issues with the steering wandering. Time to buy a recon steering rack I reckon and get the tracking done properly Smile

first run off gas was just to blow the cobwebs out. She is running really rich and struggles to rev over 5000rpm due to bogging. This is why she would only pull a 14.3 last week. We had no time to rebuild the carb an faff around with getting the metering spot on. I know another way of leaning the mix out without touchng the carb??

I stuck a quick nitrous kit on yesterday. Finished the intallation in the pits this morning and did a static test. Intead of 50/50 fuel to nitrous ratio I had to go 25hp fuel to 70hp of nitrous. Lots of reasons for this which I wont bore you with.

Long story short.
1st pass 15 seconds on carb only.

2nd pass 12.9 seconds with a 70 shot of gas but still running rich.

3rd pass, I added another 30hp of nitrous to lean the mix out some more. This seemed to hit a sweet spot because the power delivery was pretty hard and caused the run to be aborted (see video) so Jay could get back to the pits and take a tea break to calm down :)

4th pass we dropped rear tyres to 11 psi and did a good smoky burnout. This time she hooked up and went pretty hard all the way to the finish to reel in a 12.3 second pass at 105mph.

OK!
I promised him a 13 second pass and we got close to pulling an 11. And an 11 second pass would have been very easy today. But not on the loose steering and bad tracking. So I told Jay we were calling it a day and going home in one piece which he was more than happy to do after experiencing his first tank slapper on the Drag Strip :)

11.3 for Austin was good to see. :)

The truck dug in hard off the line and still tried to spin the tyres even after the massive burnout. But it ran hard and sounded clean and crisp. I thought I heard a slight faulter in a gear shift near the finish line but still jumped up and down when I saw the 11.3 :)

I've got a vid coming to upload soon.

Great day again eh?

The Skoda boys made some new times with the VRS as well as bringing the mobile dinner hall :D :D

After a few adjustments to the nitrous settings (and a 9 hour wait for one run) Jay pulled another PB straight off the trailer.
Previous was 12.1 @ 108.
Today was 11.93 @ 112. :)

Yes!! I know its running rich. We fitted a new fuel pump that runs double the old pumps volume but it only runs at 6.5 psi instead of the 12 psi from the old carter pump. And we fitted -4 nitrous lines so I was being careful. And we didnt purge the nitrous lines. Can you spot the point in the launch where the nitrous catches up with the excess fuel ;)

Then come for a passenger ride in the MG on 1st July Ted :D

While we do the testing I always ask Ian to do slo mo's to try and catch the rear tyres and suspension as well as the exhausts. Gill did buy me a spanky new digital vid camera for Easter. And I keep leaving it in the truck as I get too tied up with the car

Sods law with the weather today. Its been scorching and dry while me and Jay spent 6 hours doing tip runs and clearing the garden. I'm hoping to get him back to the Pod for a couple of early runs tomorrow. Local weather says bright and dry from now until 1pm tomorrow. The car is still on the trailer as we had to leave the driveway clear. Seems a shame to waste a chance for a few more test runs eh??

Fingers crossed we will get there to test two more nitrous settings and get back home for lunch ??

Cheers Dude!!
Yesterday was a nightmare up to the point where Jay actually got to run... I'll tell you when we next meet.

It looks like we could get you and Jay side by side later in the year for a damn close heads up race. Ford vs Ford would be a cool video eh??
A low 11 vs a high 11 would make great Youtube footage mate :)

All media coverage is good for our WoN cars ??

When are you next coming up our way Austin??

Pel

Good work Pel.
Jays getting quicker at a fast rate thannks to your experience i think.

Hope you can make it on the 20th, I only need to drop .25 to join the 10 club

It certainly is Trev!!
And the little scroat has broken 15 to 14 to 13 to 12 and now 11's in just 4 outings in 6 weeks :)

He will have to be happy with the results for the rest of the year I think. It took me 4 years to earn my 10 second wings. So I aint tuning him up anymore for the time being :beatstick:

As I said before, the diff ratio will let him down. This is a stock Rover 4.6 with a 3500 cam fitted. And he told me the other day that he crossed the line at 5800 rpm for the 112mph.
I did actually up the nitrous a bit yesterday at the Pod but he broke loose off the line and had to pedal it twice. He ran a 12.6 but with a 113.6 mph. So I think an 11.7 might be on the cards soon??
I dont like to take stock RV8's above the 5500-5800 mark as they can make so much power a lot lower down in the rev range.
I was just a bit miffed that he didnt back up an 11 but the extra mph shows he's on the right track

Del!
We have a bottle of bubbly on ice ready for your 10 mate :)

Jay is having a nice easy ride in the Escort at the moment. I can make it quick. He just needs to make sure it holds together
He has already had to beef up a distorted chassis rail with some 1/8th plate welded on. The Escort was only made to withstand braking forces on the rear beam mounts. Not a shed load of pushing forces

Heres my most precious moment captured on film by Skoda Steve when the WoN + carb only MGB broke and backed up the 10's in the same day.
Since then we have de tuned and started the long road to running boost + WoN ;)

I'm sorry! You will have to run the video to find the snapshots that Steve took at the Pod. As I dont know how to capture the stills from the video ??
