NITROUS OXIDE ( nos / n2o ) advice forum

Hello all!, I`ve been toying with the idea of Nitrous Oxide for a while now and have been slowly building up parts and the motivation to fit them!. My car is plenty fast enough for the road but could always do with a little extra at the 1/4 mile.

Not many people post up about nitrous with the GTO/3000gt so I`ll keep the thread updated with the good and hopefully not the bad..

I`ve built my kit up with WON (wizzard Of Nos) products, the best in the world and having looked closely at their pulsoids they are very well made/ machined and designed.

Parts as it stands at the moment;

WON 12lb bottle with new style valve and SPRV
WON quick release bottle bracket
WON X10 150bhp Pulseoids and dual bracket
WON Max Extreme controller (excellent piece of kit!)
WON Crossfire Injector
Goodridge "build a line" AN-3 delivery pipe (4 meters!)
3x AN-3 to 3/8th UNF convertors for the lines
Pressure guage
Various connectors/ wiring.

Still need a bottle heater and jacket..

First job was mounting the pulsoids and injector. Decided to mount them both on the intake hard pipe for a few reasons, main ones being pulseoids beaing as close to the injector as possible and ease of removal (just pull the pipe and disconnect 2 lines..).





The Crossfire has M10x1.0 thread, I used a 3/8th BSP tapered tap to get it as tight as possible + threadlock.
Luckily my hardpipe is thick enought to take a thread without needing any welding.



A picture of the bay with the pulseiods fitted, if you can spot them..



Next up mounting the bottle, I`m using 8mm rivenuts to bolt the bracket down when the tool arrives.



I`m using a spare radio surround to mount the controller (easy to remove as won`t be in daily use).



Next up is wiring (done half of it today) and testing, starting with 55hp jets and working up.

A few other pics of the engine bay, twin aircon fans to clear the TD04-16g`s.



Sytec FPR with Zeitronix fuel pressure transducer (for logging).



Engine bay needs some spit and polish, will treat it after I get an 11 second 1/4 .

Cheers Trev!, the twin pulseoid bracket made it a lot easier to mount them on the hardpipe.

How thick are your bottle heaters?, just thought I`ll need to leave a little more room when I bolt the bracket down (so the heater blanket won`t rub on it..).

Not long to go now!, all wiring is done, bottle mounted and managed to find a spare.

Plan is a trip to WON in the morning to get bottles filled and a maxflow for the second bottle.

Just wondering what the maximum flow through 4 meters of an3 line will be, hopefully I haven't gone too small for 100bhp..

Need to get it all sorted for next 1/4 mile meeting!.

Went out with 50hp jets in to do some testing and the syztem works flawlessly!, need to adjust the jet ratio slightly though (tad rich on 100n 50f).

Downside is I've found the limit of my clutch so will be laid under the car fitting a triple plate soon..

Glad to hear the system performed as expected, sorry to hear your clutch wasn't up to it.

I'm fitting a tripple plate OS Giken R3C ceramic clutch rated at 1500ftlb so the engine will explode before this one slips .

5th cluch lucky hopefully, not a nice job to fit it!.

Fitted the cluch with a mate yesterday, 6 hours mosly lais under the car was not nice; feel like I've been beaten up!.

Clutch is same as the one below but I have a Green pressure plate, should be up to the job!

NICE bit of kit and more like a bike clutch than a car clutch, so that should be up to the job.

Yeh lovely piece of engineering, was a shame to cover it up with the gearbox!.

Well first time round I found the limits of the clutch, second time round I found the limits of my bottom end!. Was been a bit greedy with bigger turbos and a 100 shot on top to be honest.

Have found another lump but in a dilemma what to do, fit my smaller turbos and use nitrous for the quarter mile?.

I started at 3000 rpm, was going well until it hit normal peak torque but obviously there was another 100ftlb on top..

My smaller turbos start to drop off at 5000 rpm so may spray from there up to 6500?. Would the engine be more tollerant higher up the rev range?.

Ideally I would run a billet crank, Hbeam rods etc but that won't be on the cards this year.

Sounds like you've suffered an engine failure so can you give more details please?

The crankshaft is hanging out of the engine!, to be fair I was pushing it well past what it was designed to take so only myself to blame!. Was pulling strong, checked datalog afterwards and 11:1 afr (spot on) no abnormal noises and then it just let go!.

Pulling the old engine out tomorrow so will take some pics.

Planning to do what I originally intended, small quick spooling turbos for the road then a spray of nitrous to help top end at the quarter mile, maybe 50hp for time being to be safe!.

Have you had any Mitsubishi GTOs through the workshop Trev?.

Billet crank and rods would be the way forward but too much spend for this year..
